Introduction to Privacy and GDPR

Welcome to the privacy section of our website.

The terms “privacy” and “data protection” are commonly used to refer to the UK and EU data protection laws and regulations which apply to the collection and use of personal information. These became encapsulated in the EU law known as the General Data Protection Regulation or “GDPR”, which was implemented in the UK by the Data Protection Act 2018.

After Brexit, the UK switched to a similar but UK-specific version of the GDPR known as the “UK GDPR”.

Unusually for a highly technical piece of legislation, few businesses these days will not have heard something about the “GDPR”.

Amongst their various data protection rights under the GDPR, individuals have the right to be told about collection and use of their personal information.

If you’re operating a website or app, compliance with this requirement will usually include use of a privacy policy and, for websites, a cookies policy.
